How to finance high education with Aidefi ?

The Luxembourg government offers financial aid for your university studies in the form of:

1. Four grants that can be awarded individually and according to certain criteria:

The basic grant;
The social grant;
The mobility grant;
The family grant.

2. Help with the cost of your studies in the form of a tuition fee supplement.

3. The tuition fee supplement (up to EUR 3,800) may be granted as follows:

50% in the form of a grant;
50% in the form of a loan (if applied for).

What are the conditions for obtaining a student loan?

The loan is available to:

Luxembourg nationals and members of their family.
EU nationals who work in Luxembourg and members of their family.
Third country nationals who have lived in Luxembourg for at least five years, and who hold a Luxembourg school leaving certificate or equivalent qualification.

Other students and pupils may also be concerned.

An application must be submitted for each semester!

Deadlines for the 2024-2025 academic year:

Winter semester: 1 August 2024 to 30 November 2024
Summer semester: 2 January 2025 to 30 April 2025
Plus enrolment fees: 2 May 2024 to 31 July 2024

Non-resident students who would like to apply for AideFi must also submit a request for financial aid in their country of residence (Crous, student grant, BAFöG, etc.). Please submit this request as early as possible.

The official response (positive or negative) from the competent authorities in your country of residence is needed to obtain AideFi. Make sure you don’t miss the deadlines in your country of residence or Luxembourg; you may add to your application after sending it to the Financial Aid Department, provided the deadline has not passed.

Frequently asked questions

How can I find out how much I can borrow under a state-guaranteed student loan (AideFi)?

You’ll need to apply for financial assistance for each semester and attach the requested documents. Once your application has been assessed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR), you’ll be informed of the amount you may claim.
Can I postpone my repayment period if I need a loan for postgraduate studies?

Your advisor will assess your situation and find the best way of financing your studies. Together, you’ll draw up a new repayment plan. Please feel free to discuss these matters with your advisor. They’ll help you pursue your studies with total peace of mind.
Can I secure a rental guarantee for a property in France?

Yes, you can set up a rental guarantee for a property in France. You can use the rental guarantee anywhere in the European Union. To unblock it, your landlords will need to send a letter to the bank confirming that there has been no damage to the property. The guarantee can then be released.
