And the winner is…

 

The winner of the My Com For Impact competition run by BGL BNP Paribas and Mikado, chosen by a panel of experts from the world of impact and communication, is the on.perfekt cooperative, led by Julia Gregor.

 

On 19 March 2024, the award ceremony for My Com For Impact was held, a competition organised jointly by BGL BNP Paribas and the Mikado communication agency to raise the profile of impact entrepreneurs.

“Entrepreneurs in the social economy are people who have a positive impact on the environment and on society. They are providing us with solutions to the ecological and social challenges of our time. So it is essential to support them and help them grow.”

How it all started...

In 2020, Julia Gregor read in a WWF article that 30% of produce never leaves the fields, largely for cosmetic reasons or because of overproduction.

 

 

 

 

on.perfekt was born from the desire to reduce the waste of imperfect fruit and vegetables and to support farmers and market gardeners.

Their shop opened in September 2022. They sell a range of local and seasonal produce that is considered unfit for the market by aesthetical standards, as well as dairy and other fresh products that have exceeded or come close to their best before dates.

 

A weekly veggie box subscription scheme also runs from June to October. The cooperative has served more than 350 subscribers to date through home deliveries.

 

on.perfekt also seeks to provide education by organising workshops and activities to raise awareness about food waste to encourage consumers to make conscious and well-informed choices, thus promoting their involvement and a direct commitment.

 

Beyond the obvious environmental impact, there is also a positive social impact. The cooperative strives to keep its shop prices as low as possible for its retail customers, despite soaring costs.

By keeping waste-related financial losses to a minimum, farmers can increase their income through the cooperative’s additional sales channels, which protect the monetary value of the food items.

 

The project is deeply rooted in local development and the promotion of regional synergies. on.perfekt collaborates with 25 partners and suppliers, including retailers, wholesalers, food processors and supermarkets.

 

The cooperative generates most of its income through sales to individuals, but it also plans to boost revenue from sales to businesses by securing new partnerships nationally and in the Greater Region.

 

Julia Gregor is particularly keen on the idea of collaboration among individuals, organisations and businesses. It was this conviction, among others, that inspired her to create on.perfekt.

 

 

The next phase of the My Com For Impact journey

Julia plans to optimise the website’s user interface and to improve the general visibility of the cooperative, particularly in terms of generating followers on social media.

 

The on.perfekt team also aims to reduce the carbon emissions of its deliveries by setting up pick-up points.

 

To help with the marketing of the delivery service, a communications campaign would be required.

WHAT IS MY COM FOR IMPACT?

Even great ideas are worthless if no one hears about them. This is nothing new... Yet, how many innovative projects and impact enterprises fail to make the cut each year because they haven’t made themselves known or due to a lack of human and/or financial resources? This observation is the driving force behind My Com For Impact.

 

 

My Com For Impact is a national competition organised in Luxembourg by BGL BNP Paribas and Mikado.

The purpose of the programme is to define and implement a set of priority communications actions to enhance the visibility, growth and impact of actors in the social solidarity economy. These are structures with a positive impact that market an innovative product or service and thus strive to promote and recognise new sustainable uses.

My Com For Impact offers candidates the chance to win a bespoke prize: the winner of the competition will be awarded a grant suited to their specific marketing and communications requirements to enable them to scale up!

 

My Com For Impact is part of BGL BNP Paribas’ Act for Impact programme, which is especially designed for impact entrepreneurs.

 

Act for Impact is supporting our social enterprises clients with banking and non-banking solutions for a greater positive impact on society and the environment.

 

My Com For Impact therefore builds on the support already provided by BGL BNP Paribas to Luxembourg actors in the positive impact economy.
